So I managed to have a pretty surreal experience a few weekends ago. I found myself on an Amtrak train,

headed to downtown New York City,

on the weekend of September 11, 2011,

to go to Ground Zero,

to play an Interdependence Day Conference concert,

with Speech from Arrested Development.

Somehow, the connections of my partner in crime Ramzy (of Ramzy and the Brothers Handsome) led to us being the backing band for several artists at this concert, including 2x Grammy winner Speech (who turned out to be a really cool guy, too!)

While some of you may be unfamiliar with Afrocentric neo-alternative hip-hop outfit Arrested Development, I grew up a huge fan of theirs, and remember wailing along to songs like “Mr. Wendal” and “People Everyday” as a kid. Suddenly, I found myself playing all those beats I nodded my head to as a youth and singing the choruses alongside their original artist (on a paid gig, too, no less!)

Check out the footage starting at around the 1 hour mark and feel my ecstatic glee at the whole situation.
