Some more liner notes from Soul Beauty, Vol. 2:

The idea of body language has always fascinated me, particularly in how it can both allow and inhibit communication in relationships. I always wanted to write about that, and truth be told, I actually wrote this song nearly entirely in the shower. I give high regard to lyrical content, so oftentimes I struggle to find the right words to fit exactly what I want to express. But every now and then, the words just come to me all at once. The opening line and the first verse actually came to me before I wrote the chorus, which fit perfectly (sometimes simplicity works best). I hopped out, dried off, sat at the piano and finished writing the bridge all in one sitting. The chord changes just seemed to flow out all at once. In fact, the only thing that didn’t come immediately was the rhythmic idea. After being stuck on it for a little while, I decided to jack reinterpret Steve Gadd’s break from Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” which I’m sure most can recognize. Since releasing the song, I’ve noticed that its album art sometimes gives people some initial difficulty, which I kind of like; since it adds to the whole eye exam concept.

Enjoy.
